Happy Tuesday! Dr Kelly here. The balancing act.
I know your day is not complete until you have wobbled.
One of the therapies we implement here at Tree of Life Wellness Center is the wobble chair.
We start with the vestibular disc. This is the beginners NMR. NeuroMuscluar Re-Education.
NMR exercises:
- Are the motor control training. They focus on retraining the brain and muscles to work together effectively. This involves practicing precise and controlled movements to improve coordination, balance, and stability.
- Repetition and reinforcement. Consistency and repetition are essential for NeuroMuscular Re-education. Regular practice of prescribed exercises helps reinforce new movement patterns, build strength, and promote neuroplasticity – which is the brain’s ability to reorganize and adapt.
It is important to rewire the way the muscles of your spine are firing to help keep you in proper alignment.
There are little, tiny muscles, about an inch long, that cross over the vertebrae of the spine. We want to help these muscles to support the spine in the proper alignment.
Pretend like there is a button on the ceiling. You want to sit up and reach the top of your head to that button.
Shoulders are down and back. Knees at 90 degrees. Use the step stool if you need to.
It may be only a few minutes out of the day that you have that perfect posture. Muscle memory will help you maintain that posture while you are at the computer or sitting at the kitchen table.
NMR’s help to:
- Restore and improve muscle strength, flexibility, and endurance.
- Improve coordination!! It enhances the coordination between different muscle groups.
- Enhance Proprioception! Proprioception is the body’s ability to sense the position, movement and force of muscles and joints. This is crucial for maintaining BALANCE, STABILITY AND POSTURE.
- Pain management. NMR’s can be effective in reducing pain by addressing the underlying movements dysfunctions or imbalances that contribute to pain.
By restoring proper muscle function and alignment, it can alleviate stress on the joints and soft tissues.
Who knew the simple wobbling you do in the office would have such an impact on you!
You may seem silly doing the back to front and side to side motion, but getting the hydration in to the spine is wonderful.
If you are going for a long car ride, do the wobble exercise right before you get out of the car. If you don’t use it, you lose. Keep the spine moving.
Get adjusted before and after your trip. Tree of Life will help keep your trip fun.
