Hello! Dr Kelly here. The Clean 15.
We discussed before the dirty dozen. Now we are onto Clean 15. Knowing the crazy price food has increased to, finding the balance of getting good food and fitting into your budget can be a challenge.
As the name Clean 15 suggests the EWG (Environmental Working Group) has compiled a list of the top 15 foods that have the least amount of pesticides.
The Clean 15 are:
2. Sweet corn
3. Pineapple
4. Onions
5. Papaya
7. Asparagus
8. Honeydew
9. Kiwi
10. Cabbage
12. Mangos
13. Sweet potatoes
14. Watermelon
15. Carrots
Working to help make your dollar stretch, the Clean 15 are foods that you can feel more comfortable buying NON-organic.
I still try to buy organic when it is possible. Buying organic helps reduce the likely hood of you getting genetically modified foods. Keep in mind that if you buy organic you also want to make sure that the food is good quality. The fresher the food the better.
I have been to the grocery store and the organic food is old and wilted. In those cases, I go with the best-looking food. The plants get their nutrients from the soil. If the soil is depleted of nutrients, then there are less nutrients in your vegetables and fruits. This is another reason that even though you are eating healthily, you still need to take supplements to support the nutrients you are not getting.
When looking at supplements, I consider the overall vitamins included and the micronutrients. It is the minerals that I find to be depleted.
Above are examples of a supplement that includes the trace minerals your body needs. I personally take a mineral supplement. I break down the other nutrients I need and take them individually.
The Environmental Working Group is a great resource for reviewing pesticide contamination. I recommend clicking on their link and viewing the resources. Text MINERALS or respond to this email if you would like to add Trace Minerals to your FullScript account.
